We are looking for a Certification Engineer/Lead to drive end-to-end certification of our Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and Containerized BESS solutions. This role will be responsible for ensuring that our products meet global safety, performance, and grid compliance standards, while working closely with engineering, quality, and external certification bodies.
Key Responsibilities
1. C&I BESS Certification Management
- Lead certification efforts for C&I BESS systems in line with:
- UL 9540 – System-level safety certification
- UL 1973 / IEC 62619 – Battery module safety
- IEEE 1547 – Grid interconnection compliance
- Ensure compliance with:
- UL 9540A – Fire propagation testing
- EMS/BMS standards and functional safety requirements
- Local fire codes and regulations (e.g., NFPA 855)
2. Containerized BESS Certification
Drive certification across all levels of the system:
- Battery Pack (Module):
- UL 1973:2022
- IEC 62619:2022
- Battery Cluster / Rack:
- UL 1973:2022 (derived from pack-level certification)
- Battery Container / System Level:
- UL 9540
- IEC 62933-5-1:2024
- IEC 62933-5-2:2020 (for PV-integrated systems)
- EN IEC 62933-5-2:2020
3. Certification Strategy & Execution
- Define and execute certification roadmap aligned with product development timelines
- Work with test labs (UL, TUV, Intertek, etc.) for testing and approvals
- Manage test plans, documentation, compliance reports, and gap analysis
- Support engineering teams in design-for-certification (DfC)
4. Cross-functional Coordination
- Collaborate with:
- Engineering (design compliance)
- Quality (process adherence, audits)
- SCM (component compliance)
- Projects/EPC (deployment compliance)
- Ensure alignment between product design, certification, and field deployment
5. Regulatory & Compliance Monitoring
- Track updates in global and Indian regulatory frameworks
- Ensure readiness for future standards and evolving compliance requirements
- Support customer and regulatory audits
Skills Required
- Knowledge of fire safety & system-level risk mitigation
- Familiarity with grid-scale applications
- Exposure to UL / IEC standards
- Background in BESS, EV, Power Electronics, or Industrial systems preferred
- Strong coordination and regulatory management skills
- Certified IA Auditor for IMS or equivalence
- Willingness to travel internationally for project execution & site support
Education & Qualification:
- Bachelor’s/Master’s in Electrical / Electronics Engineering
- 3–10 years of experience in battery/BESS/EV certification or compliance roles
- Strong understanding of:
- UL, IEC, IEEE standards for energy storage
- Battery systems, thermal safety, and grid integration
- Experience working with certification agencies and testing labs
- Strong documentation, coordination, and problem-solving skills
